OverDrive Advantage

In late 2013, all libraries within the South Central Library System agreed to contribute toward the OverDrive Advantage program. A total of $27,758.95 was allocated for this program, which supplements what is available through Wisconsin's Digital Library.

About $5,000 was spent at the end of 2013 to address expected demand as a result of holiday gifts, and then we will spend about $1,250 per month for the rest of 2014. The average cost of a popular title is $60, which allows for the purchase of approximately 21 copies each month. We will purchase a maximum of 10 copies for each title.

The selection committee will use the Purchase Alert Report to find the most popular titles, but audiobooks won't be purchased. The committee will concentrate on items that the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium (WPLC) cannot purchase. Members of the selection committee are: Heidi Cox, E.D. Locke Public Library (McFarland); Mary Knapp, Madison Public Library; and Maureen Palmer, Reedsburg Public Library.

These criteria will be reviewed quarterly and will be adjusted when needed.
