President's Report:

  1.  Committee Assignments:  G. Poulson distributed a handout indicating who will be serving on the board committees.  Because there are a few vacancies on the board, the committees will be updated when new board members are appointed. The web page will be updated immediately.
  2. Visiting Dane County Directors to discuss Koha:  G. Poulson visited the Library Directors of the DeForest, Cross Plains, Monona and Madison Public Libraries with M. Van Pelt to discuss Koha.  An action plan is being developed to address these issues.

Committee Reports: None

SCLS Foundation Report:  M. Van Pelt noted the Foundation board will meet April 26th.  Fitchburg Public Library has volunteered to host the Cornerstone award this year.

Circulation and ILL Statistics:  No report.

System Director's Report:  M. Van Pelt noted a Koha upgrade took place February 7th with an additional upgrade on February 9th.  Marty discussed the issues that some Dane County Libraries are experiencing with Koha and noted she is visiting every Dane County library director to discuss Koha further.  Several of the Dane County libraries have attended demonstrations from a different ILS system, Innovative Interfaces Inc.  If any Dane County library decides to switch to a different ILS system, there would be consequences with the Dane County Library System Standards.  A SCLS Koha development plan has been sent to all the ILS libraries.  If the expectations of the plan are not met, then all ILS member libraries will come together and discuss what happens next. On March 6th, there will be an ILS users group meeting at the Fitchburg Public Library to discuss future development in Koha.

Although some are unhappy with the basic functionality in Koha, the bigger issue seems to be communication between SCLS and the libraries.  A facilitator has been contacted by M. Van Pelt and Jean Anderson.  It is hoped that the facilitator can help SCLS and its members re-establish a more positive working relationship.

M. Van Pelt inquired if the board had any suggestions for specific presentations topics in 2012.  It was suggested that Denise Anton Wright, the newly hired Public Library Administration Consultant, discuss her outreach plans for working with the member libraries.

Administrative Council (AC) Report:
Action items at the meeting included approval of a pilot program to create a shared collection of new materials, the dissolution of the Resource Sharing Work group, and the creation of a work group to review non-ILS library lending.

Meeting adjourned at 12:54 p.m.
