A description of MALC

The SCLS Multitype Advisory Library Committee (MALC) is advisory to the SCLS Director and Board of Trustees on issues and activities related to cooperation among libraries of all types (as illustrated in the SCLS organizational chart). The Committee may also initiate programs that foster cooperation and networking among all types of libraries.

Examples of Tasks:

• Review the multitype portions of the SCLS Long Range Plan and Budget, as described in Wisconsin Statutes 43.24(2)(L).
  
• Recommend, and help promote, Continuing Education programs that appeal to a broad spectrum of library types.
  
• Foster cooperation and networking among all types of libraries (and staff).
  
• Sponsor programs and/or activities that encourage participation in SCLS. Examples:
  
  • Job shadowing
  • Library tours
  • Social events (such as “First Thursday”)
  • Scholarships
  • Promote multitype “Agreement to Participate” to non-public libraries in SCLS geographic area.
    
• Cooperate with UW-Madison SLIS on these and similar tasks as appropriate.

The Committee meets the first Tuesdays in October, January, April and July.  Meetings begin at 10:00 am; meetings are held at SCLS Administration and via compressed videoconference at the Portage County Public Library.  Committee members can also attend meetings via teleconference.
