Minutes:

Minutes from January meeting approved with the following corrections: MALC Scholarships are $250, not $150 as stated in the minutes; The MATC Library has revamped their web page (not just the downtown MATC library).

SCLS Report:

Jean Anderson, CE/Multitype Coordinator, reported on the following:

SCLS Annual Meeting will be held May 11, 2007 at Devil's Lake State Park

CE Schedule is posted on the Calendar section of the SCLS web page. Upcoming programs include “Best from the Web” by the College of DuPage on April 13.

Interviews for a new tech person are scheduled for April 16 and 17th

CE event, Bridges out of Poverty, held this past February was very well received. Next April, SCLS is partnering with SLIS to sponsor a 2 day workshop of the same title.

System Celebration is scheduled for September 20 at Sweet Sophie’s in Waunakee.

Nominations for awards are now open – see the web site for forms.

MALC Scholarships:

One application was received. There was some discussion of changing the amount of the scholarship or the distribution. Jean will notify the winner and post on the web site.

Job Shadowing:

We now have 9-10 host libraries and have received a couple of requests from people to participate. One participant specifically requested Baraboo and Jean is facilitating this meeting.

Next meeting:

July 10th at 10 a.m. with Jack Faulkner-Becker participating via phone
instead of video conference.

News:

Jack: Portage County PL participated in the Scrabble tournament fundraiser held by the Portage County Literacy Council. The library participated in the Business Expo. Working on promoting their databases and have a brochure that includes how to access the database and what’s included in them.

Amanda: Recently hosted Keith Huie at their libraries – great program. Recommends the Dinosaur Holiday CD and there’s only 10 weeks left of school!

Connie: WSLL has a new web master. They have remote access to their databases and are working to promote them as well. Finished their annual review process and now have goals for this year. Preparing for National Library Week.

Kelly: Madison Public Library is changing to an online calendar so that patrons can register themselves for programs. Email reminders will be sent to people who register for programs – hoping to eliminate those no-shows. Sequoya Library is starting construction! The construction should be completed in about one year, to open late spring 2008.

Jill: Memorial Library: History of Great Lakes program Thursday, April 5 at 4 p.m. The Friends endowment has received a great gift and have reached their goal. Memorial and SLIS will again be sponsoring the Edible Books event. Working on installation of security cameras and redesigning web site.

Peggy: Columbus PL books sale brought in around $70 – selling books by the bag for $1 per bag. The board has prohibited the use of cell phones in the library. Page raises were approved. The library also has a new web site

Virginia: MATC faculty and student survey in process. Two longtime library staff plan to retire this summer. Some realigning of duties will happen before the positions are filled. MATC is also dealing with cell phone issues. Administration made the decision not to have public service hours on Saturday mornings. As a result, the library is fielding many questions as they are the only open door for people who need help. Email signoffs have changed as a result of an eye-opening piece in the WSLL Newsletter.

Respectfully submitted,

Amanda Moss, Maywood Elementary School
