- Linda suggested a program with information for marketing to ethnic/teen groups.
- Debbie asked about focus group structure. How do you identify these people and how to use these groups effectively?
- Library branding—What it is and how do you use it to your advantage.
- Improving your website, and marketing your website so people use it.
- Beyond the poster or bookmarks. Ideas for marketing outside the library. How do you get people to notice your programs? How do you know if it’s effective?
- Signage in the library. How can you be most effective?
- Marketing to educational professionals. What kind of services should we market, and how can we improve service to them.
- Develop marketing plans.
5. Selection of Year-Long Project—possible options
In addition to marketing for patrons, some sort of information sheet is needed to help staff learn about the databases. Staff needs help to show people how to use the databases, but also how to market the products to internal audience. Some of the general pieces talked about were:
- Materials to train staff
- Materials for patrons
- The reference librarians seem to know it better than others. Debbie said they have four or five that really know it, but the other staff members sometimes don’t remember what they’ve learned.
- Signage, press releases.
- Create a PowerPoint presentation libraries can take out into the community for programs/presentations.
- How do we reach students and teachers? We need to develop some sort of component that targets students and teachers. How do they use it, and when do you use it?
- List of possible community groups/or other groups to which you promote the databases.
- Video/audio PSAs to promote databases and direct patrons to the library.
- Brain Snacks on databases
- Create DVD tutorials of the databases for staff and patron use.
- Include LINKCat in all of this.
