  1. Discussion of major themes to be used to better promote & market various online databases—This discussion focused on the databases themselves and what information we felt should be conveyed about each. Who are the audiences/users of each database (internal & external) and what messages/ information will be most helpful or informational for them. Instead of creating promotional materials for each database, we decided it would be best to create targeted materials for a range of user categories. These would then have information about the databases that can best be used to help patrons find the information they seek, and specific examples of the kinds of information that is available and the resources that can be used. Our user-centric categories, and the appropriate databases, are:
    • Business—Reference USA Business, OverDrive, NetLibrary and ProQuest/EBSCOHost (emphasize Serial Solutions)
    • Genealogy—HeritageQuest, Ancestry Library, EBSCOHost (historical newspapers), African American Biographical Database
    • Consumers—EBSCOHost/ProQuest, Reference USA Business, NetLibrary
    • Educators—EBSCOHost/ProQuest and TeachingBooks.net (the idea here is to provide information about how teachers can use other databases for curriculum projects)
    • Students (High School/Junior High and Elementary categories)—LitFinder, Literature Resource Center, EBSCOHost/Proquest,TeachingBooks.nets, What Do I Read Next?, NetLibrary and OverDrive
    • Health/Fitness—EBSCO/ProQuest, NetLibrary and OverDrive
    • Readers—What Do I Read Next? OverDrive, Literature Resource Center and LitFinder; and
    • Seniors (this category is in anticipation of the baby boomer retirements and is more here for discussion purposes).
  2. Assignment of activities to specific individuals for next meeting—During the next several months we will use a new online program called Basecamp to share ideas about what messages should be conveyed for each of the areas mentioned above. Our focus right now is on what information needs to be shared, not how we should share the information. By using this process we can get more done in anticipation of our next meeting (see dates below).
  3. Future meeting dates:
       - Sept. 29, 2006, 10 a.m. – Noon, SCLS Admin, Rm. C
       - Dec. 8, 2006, 10 a.m. – Noon, SCLS Admin, Rm. C
  4. Other Business—None
  5. Adjourn
