10 a.m. December 8, 2006
SCLS Administration, Conference Room C
Present: Debbie Bird, Sun Prairie Public Library; Barbara Brewer, Monroe Public Library (OPAL); Jennifer Endres, Prairie du Sac; Linda Olson, MPL; Mark Ibach, SCLS; Kerry Preece, McMillan Memorial Library (OPAL); Kim Ropson, Marshfield (OPAL). Also joining us was Stef Morrill, SCLS.
- Approve Minutes from 9/29/06 meeting -- Committee members approved the minutes of the Sept. 29, 2006, meeting without change.
- Discuss the types of promotional materials you believe would be most helpful for each of the general topical areas we've determined -- We decided that any materials for this promotional project need to be brief, and member felt it would be best to have a bookmark-type product (or small flyer) for each subject area defined at previous meetings (one small piece of paper printed on two sides). These patron pieces might include sample questions, examples of practical applications, the URL, and a list of databases that address the subject area. Everyone felt it would be best to avoid use of the term "database." Pieces may also contain a brief description of the resources you'll find in each database. It might also be good to have some simple tips for effective searching.
Mark will produce a sample for the next meeting for only one of the subject areas. Once we decide on that format, content, and message, he will create the pieces for each of the subject areas.
- There was discussion about a separate library staff piece, but it was felt that staff could refer to the same patron piece. Again, brief was the key element.
