- Splash Page – Have a brief explanation about why LINKcat will be down. Down time and launch date. Also, put the information about the need to keep items until the due date. Begin using this splash page on Jan. 5, 2011.
- Bookmarks/fliers/poster/—Produce something that explains that library patrons should try not to return items during the Jan. 14-16 down time. Explain that since items can’t be checked in they will just pile up, and you’ll be helping your library by keeping items until the due date. We will get these out about as quickly as possible.
- Press Release – Do a media alert the week before, then give out the press release after the fact.
- Facebook updates – We’re going to start pulling items from the promotional materials and post them on facebook. We’ll highlight some of the new LINKcat features. I’ll also look into information for facebook ads, and we’ll connect our facebook page to our Twitter page. We’ll try to post three or four times each week. Tana is also going to send some of her items.
- E-mail – We will send an email on January 5 to everyone who has given us an
e-mail address. This email will promote the launch date, the down dates, new features, and the facebook and Twitter pages. We’ll also include a reminder that if they normally pick up holds for other people, during the down time they will need to have that person’s library card to pick up holds.
We’ll also include a lot of this information in Top 5 as a reminder to staff, especially the information about needing the library card of the person whose holds you’re picking up.
- We also will be creating a piece to promote the location of the web tutorials that are being created. We will also promote the printed materials that are available to help people learn the new features. We’re going to talk about putting the tutorials on the SCLS YouTube Channel.
