| Can
I see a list of all of the netLibrary titles available to me? |
There are two ways
to do this:
- A list of all titles purchased by the Wisconsin
Public Library Consortium (WPLC) can be found at
http://www.wils.wisc.edu/coop/vendor/netlib3.html
This list can be viewed in order by title or by subject.
- You can also see what titles are available
by searching LINKcat with a subject of "Electronic books"
or with an author of "netlibrary". LINKcat can be
accessed at http://www.linkcat.info

can I search for titles for kids? |
- Go to http://www.netlibrary.com
- Log in with your account name and password,
if required.
- Choose "Advanced Search".
- On the Advanced Search screen, choose "Subject"
from the drop-down box next to the search box.
- Type "juvenile literature" in the
search box.
- Click the "search" button.

| What
are some specific areas that the netLibrary collection includes? |
- Over 100 titles from the "Cliff notes"
series.
- Over 300 titles from the "Complete idiot's
guide to..." series.
- A large number of law and management titles
for consumers from Nolo Press.
- Science project titles for kids.
- Thousands of free eBooks through the Public
Collection. This collection includes many classic books, as
well as other eBooks.

netLibrary Titles |
| Can
I access the netLibrary books from home? |
Yes. If you have a library
card from a LINK library, Marshfield Public Library, or Portage
County Public Library:
- Go to the SCLS
Reference Databases page.
- Choose "Connect to netLibrary".
- Enter your library barcode when prompted,
and click "Log In".
If you do not have a barcode from one of the
libraries listed above, you will need to go to the public library
to set up an account before you will be able to access the titles
from home. |
| How
do I set up an account? |
From the
library:
- Go to http://www.netlibrary.com
- Click on "Create a Free Account"
in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
- Fill out the information requested.
- Click on the "Create Account" button.
- If your login name is already in use, you'll
be asked to make another one.
- You will be sent back to the opening screen
with a message indicating that "Your account has been successfully
created" appearing at the top.
From home: (only if you have a library
card from a LINK library, Marshfield Public Library, or Portage
County Public Library):
- Go to the SCLS
Reference Databases page.
- Choose "Connect to netLibrary".
- Enter your library barcode when prompted,
and click "Log In".
- You will now be at the netLibrary home page.
Continue with steps 2-6 in the instructions for setting up an
account from the library above.

| What
does it mean to "check out" a netLibrary book? |
You can view any book
in the netLibrary collection without checking it out. However, if
you check out a netLibrary book, you have exclusive access to that
book for 24 hours. |
| How do I
check out a netLibrary book? |
To check out a title:
- From the list of search results, click on
the “Show Details” link for a title.
- In the viewing options box at the top, choose
“Checkout for 24 hours”
- If you are not logged in, you will be asked
to do so. Enter your Username and Password, and click the “Log
In” button. If you do not have an account, see "How
do I set up an account?" above.
- You will receive a message at the top of
the screen telling you have successfully checked out the book.

long is a netLibrary book checked out for? |
A netLibrary book is checked
out for 24 hours. |
| Can
I put a hold on a netLibrary book? |
You can’t put
a book on hold, but you can be notified when it becomes available:
1. When you try to view a book that
is in use, you will receive a notice at the top of the screen.
There will also be a link to “Request to be notified when
this title becomes available”. Click this link.
2. Enter your email address.
3. Click the “Submit” button. You will receive a message
that your request has been successfully sent.

| What
if I want to read the book without being connected to the Internet? |
At this time, you
cannot read a book without being connected to the Internet. We do
not have the ability for people to download books to PCs or portable
devices to read offline. |
| How
do I return a netLibrary book? |
If you checkout a
netLibrary book, your access to it will expire in 24 hours, so it
isn't necessary to return it. If you are done with the book in less
than 24 hours and want to return it so someone else can use it,
you can do this:
- Go to http://www.netlibrary.com
- Click on the link to "Log In" in
the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
- Enter your username and password and click
"Log In."
- Click on the link to "My Checked Out
eBooks" in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
- Find the book you want to return.
- Click the "Check in" link below
the description of the book.
- You will see a message that the eBook was
checked in successfully.

netLibrary has a tool
kit publicity materials. You can see the available materials at
netLibrary's Library
Resource Center. (http://www.netlibrary.com/resourcecenter/).
Libraries can order these materials directly
from netLibrary.
