| What’s happening with ebooks in South Central Library System? |
South Central is currently experimenting with two types of ebooks:
- netLibrary:Over 1800 titles are available from netLibrary to South Central libraries. For more information, see http://psw.scls.lib.wi.us/netlibrary.html
- Portable ebook readers: Each public library in the South Central Library System has the opportunity to try out a portable ebook reader in their library. More information is available at http://psw.scls.lib.wi.us/ereaders.html
|
| Where did the money come from to experiment with these technologies? |
The money came from two sources:
- South Central, as part of WPLC, applied for a WATF grant in 2000. This grant supplied funding for all of the netLibrary titles purchased, and supplied some money for the portable ebook readers.
- Some money was allocated from the LSTA 2001 grant for purchasing portable ebook readers and titles.

| What is WPLC? |
WPLC is the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium.
The original members of WPLC received a grant from WATF in July 2000 to
explore various types of ebooks, including purchasing a shared collection
of electronic books from netLibrary and some dedicated ebook reading devices
such as the RocketBook (replaced by the REB1100). Other members have since
joined the consortium. |
| Who are the other members of WPLC? |
Currently, there are twelve other members of the consortium:
- Eastern Shores Library System
