Scholarship Guidelines
Any employee of a MALC member library may apply for a scholarship.
Public library staff, however, are not eligible for these awards and are encouraged
to apply for South Central Library System Continuing Education Grants.
Guidelines:
- Each fiscal year the MALC Board will award up to two scholarships to
help defray the expenses associated with attending meetings, workshops, or
conferences which promote professional growth.
- One scholarship,
in the amount of $250.00, is awarded for attending an out of state library
conference or professional activity such
as those sponsored by ALA and its divisions as well as SLA, MLA,
AAL and ACRL.
- One scholarship, in the amount of $250.00, is awarded for attending an
in state library conference or continuing education program such as those
sponsored by WEMA, WLA, WAAL,WAPL, or WILS.
- The Scholarship Committee of the MALC Board will select
the award recipients and will consider the following criteria:
- lack of financial assistance from employer.
- potential benefit to the applicant for enhancing skills and professional
development.
- whether the applicant has previously received a MALC scholarship.
- The application deadline for the scholarship awards is February 1st.
- Applicants must submit the "MALC
Scholarship Application" form prior
to the scheduled activity.
- The MALC Scholarship Committee will review the applications and make
a recommendation to the MALC Board at the April meeting.
- The scholarships must be must be used in the same calendar year they
are awarded.
- Recipients of the scholarships are required to submit a
"MALC Scholarship Evaluation" form
to Jean Anderson within thirty days after attending the educational activity.
Scholarship payment will be authorized after the evaluation form is received.
- If for any reason a scholarship cannot be used as requested or duplicate
funds become available from an employer, the recipient should immediately
notify the SCLS office.
- Prepayment of scholarship funds may be granted under special circumstances.
