Sharing Digital Resources

May 19, 2011
Lussier Family Heritage Center, Madison

The goal of this second Multitype Summit is to bring together librarians from academic, public, school, state agencies, corporate, and other special librarians to further the process of creating a dynamic collaboration network.

This year’s keynote speakers are:

  • Melissa McLimans, whose presentation is titled “From Concept to Reality: An overview of the University of Wisconsin Digital Collections.” She will give an overview of UWDC’s history and make-up, then talk a bit about how projects are proposed, developed and approved, and how projects move through their workflow. She will share a few examples of the type of projects they do. UWDC has over 2 million pages of text and some 92,000 images, plus audio, video and finding aids. PPT slides

  • Debbie Cardinal, program manager, and Emily Pfotenhauer, outreach specialist, whose presentation is titled “Forward Through Our Past,” will describe the working model first proposed by the digital exploratory forum, discuss how that model has evolved over the past eight years, and highlight several multitype collections developed in partnership with Wisconsin Heritage Online (WHO). Since its creation in 2004, the collaborative digitization program WHO has built a searchable portal of nearly 90,000 items from the collections of public libraries, academic libraries, archives, museums, and historical societies across Wisconsin. • Abby Swanton, Kara Ripley, and Cat Phan, whose presentation is titled “Linked to Wisconsin: Digital Resource Sharing with RL&LL.” Learn how BadgerLink (handout, PDF), Found in Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Digital Archives (handout, Word) can add value to your patrons’ library experience! They are from the Resources for Libraries & Lifelong Learning team at the Division for Libraries, Technology and Community Learning (DLTCL).

We hope today will inspire you to share the wealth of your knowledge and resources with each other. Register here!
