Director’s Report
June 2012
Denise Anton Wright
and the SCLS Director attended the Dane County Librarians meeting. Laura Page facilitated the meeting. Topics covered included the WPLC Purchasing
Pool, contracts, governance, budget, and the Koha
evaluation. Members had received their
fees for the 2013 WPLC Purchasing Pool and were dismayed by the increased costs
due to the reduction of the LSTA subsidy.
SCLS staff met with WiLS staff twice.
Once to review the 2013 services received under the new WiLS model. The
second meeting was a joint meeting with the Staples Corporation to extend the
SCLS discount model to all members of WiLS. This partnership will be a benefit for all
public libraries in Wisconsin.
The All Directors
meeting was held July 19th. The majority of members attended, 47 out
of 53, with 8 SCLS staff members. Laura
Page also attended for part of the day. SCLS
staff gave presentations on budget, delivery, technology, ILS and consultant
services in the morning. The afternoon program
was devoted to the cluster section of the governance structure. The Governance Review Work Group will collate
information from the surveys given at the meeting and prepare a recommendation
to the Administrative Council (AC).
A special AC meeting
was held prior to the All Directors Meeting.
The AC voted to accept the 2 revised contracts for 2013; Agreement to Receive Technology Services
from SCLS and Agreement to Participate in Shared
Integrated Library System and Receive Technology Services. The two
contracts were sent in the SCLS Board packet.
The SCLS Board will be voting on the contracts at the July meeting so they
can be returned to members by August 1.
The AC did make one minor amendment to each contract during the meeting
which I will share here since the contracts were sent to the SCLS Board before
the AC meeting.
Agreement to Receive Technology Services from SCLS:
11. SCLS, in
Consultation with the Administrative Council, shall review this agreement annually.
Agreement to Participate in Shared Integrated
Library System and Receive Technology Services
19. SCLS, in Consultation with the Administrative
Council, shall review this agreement annually.
Vicki Teal Lovely,
ILS Projects Manager, met with Koha users from Nebraska and Colorado to discuss
the formation of a national Liblime/Koha Users Group to encourage more collaboration and
development partnerships. Managers have
been meeting to discuss options on the Technology Projects Manager position,
salary grid, evaluations, contracts and 2013 budget.
