SCLS Database Promotion Materials

The web page you and your patrons see when looking for a database by subject -- www.scls.info/resources/ -- has been designed to help direct users to the databases that may best meet their information needs.

The page divides resources into the following categories -- Business, Consumers, Genealogy, Readers, Students and Teachers, and Wellness -- and gives examples of the kinds of questions that can be answered using the various databases. To help you promote these database web pages, we've created promotional materials that are available free of charge to member libraries.

Click on the links below to view PDFs of the promotional fliers, or the posters and "shelftalkers" you can use for in-library promotion. When you know what you want, and how many, just contact Mark Ibach to place an order (copies are free to member libraries).

We also have brief PowerPoint presentations for each subject area. These are not designed to teach people how to use individual databases, but rather to help you show what kinds of online resources are available through your library.

Another tool we've created is a website widget that you can use on your homepage to attract attention and direct library patrons to the database(s) that will be most likely to help answer their questions. SCLS member libraries can obtain the code for these widgets from our TechBits Blog.

If you use Contribute to update your website, contact Rose Ziech to have it added to your library's website.

In addition to these materials, ProQuest has a Public Library Toolkit with guides, flyers and press release templates to help you promote your library's valuable products and services. There's even a digital "ad" that can be downloaded and used on your library's homepage.
