System Celebration scheduled Sept. 15; award nomination deadline is April 15
Mark your calendars for System Celebration 2005, scheduled Thursday, Sept. 15, at Morels restaurant in Middleton. This event is our annual thank you to the staff, trustees, and mayors/village presidents of SCLS member libraries for their support and efforts throughout the year.
Award nominations -- which may be made by library staff, trustees, Friends, citizens, etc. -- must be submitted at www.scls.info/about/systemceleb. New this year is the requirement that all nominations be submitted electronically. The deadline for nominations is Friday, April 15.
The System Celebration also will once again offer a poster session during the reception portion of the evening. Individual libraries are encouraged to prepare posters about a new construction or renovation project, a successful or unusual library program, a successful advocacy project, or a project to raise funds or obtain volunteer support for the library. If you are interested in preparing a poster for the session, or would like to suggest an idea for a poster, contact Mark Ibach by email by June 1, 2005.
DEMCO sponsors bus to ALA convention
As part of its 100-year anniversary celebration, DEMCO is sponsoring a bus trip to ALA for area library staff, librarians, and students on Sunday, June 26. DEMCO will provide each passenger with passes to the exhibits, a lunch coupon, and a beverage on the bus.
To register for the trip, send an e-mail to Brian Shea at briansh@demco.com and include the name of each passenger, the name of the library, and your e-mail address and telephone number. All registrations must be received by Friday, April 22. If you have questions, contact Brian at (800) 695-0267.

At the DEMCO booth there will be an ongoing party and a variety of giveaway items all day.
SCLS purchases online version of ‘Foundations in Wisconsin’
Many of you may be familiar with “Foundations in Wisconsin,” which is published annually by Marquette University and lists every grant-making foundation in Wisconsin. To make this resource more available to our member public libraries, the SCLS recently purchased the online version.
Staff at member public libraries may access it from the “Resources for SCLS Public Libraries Only” page at www.scls.info/pro/index.html (remember a password is required for this page). Because of licensing requirements, the resource is available from LINK workstations only, and it is only for use by library staff, not patrons. A print version also is available in the SCLS Professional Collection.
If you have questions about access, contact Stef Morrill at (608) 245-5799 or by email.
DHFS has forms for health care planning, advance directives
If the news headlines of recent weeks have your patrons asking for information on healthcare planning and advance directives, the State of Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services website provides free access to printable documents that patrons can fill out themselves.
