Summer Library Program

TeenRead is sponsored jointly by the South Central Library System and participating member libraries. The goal is to give teen readers the opportunity to share their impressions of 16 selected books with peers throughout the seven-county area served by SCLS.

And because we realize that every teen's reading preference isn't reflected on this year's reading list, this year they can blog about any book they're reading.

The centerpiece of the program is a blog that provides a forum for teens to discuss contemporary books. The blog is moderated by teen services librarians who have read all the discussion titles and enjoy talking and blogging about great books.

TeenRead provides a safe forum for teens to discuss these contemporary books because it is moderated by SCLS member librarians who review all posts to the site.

E-mail addresses, names and personal information are never exchanged. A librarian even approves all registrations before participants are allowed to post or reply to messages. Blog participants will be unsubscribed from the blog if any of the rules are broken.

Materials available for the program include a:

• sample press release (Microsoft Word);
• poster;
• bookmarks;
• fliers (with descriptions and without descriptions); and
• website button.

SCLS will print any of these files for you free of charge. To place your order, contact Mark Ibach and let him know how many of each you want.
