Can we have multiple email accounts open at once?

  • Technically multiple accounts can be open at the same time but they'd need to be in different browsers. So you could have one open in Internet Explorer, one in Firefox and one in Chrome, but that's it.

 

What should I do if I forgot my password?

  • If you've forgotten your password, you need to contact the Help Desk to have your password reset.
  • If you use the forgotten password option in Office 365, your request might not be answered as quickly.

 

Can I have my browser remember my login and password?

  • Technically you can. However if it's a shared PC, other people will be able to read your email. Also, if multiple people are using the same PC, you may have to enter at least the start of your login to pull up your specific login and password.
  • Also, if something happens and you lose your saved password, you will need to re-enter it.

 

How do I create a desktop shortcut to Office 365?

  1. Right-click your desktop and choose New-> Shortcut
  2. Type http://mail.scls.info and click Next
  3. Type a name for your new shortcut (ex. O365 Email) and click Finish

 

How do I create a desktop shortcut to Office 365 that opens in a specific browser?

  1. Right-click your desktop and choose New-> Shortcut
  2. Copy the text from one of the following

How do I create a link in an email or signature in Office 365?

As you’re typing, Office 365 will turn URLs and email addresses into links, provided you type a space or press enter afterward. This feature works better in some browsers than others.

  • Internet Explorer – works for URLs and email addresses
  • Chrome & Firefox – works for URLs

You can also manually insert a link by highlighting text, clicking on the "insert hyperlink" insert hyperlink button, and adding the URL to which you'd like to link.

 

When I log in, what exactly does the "keep me signed in" checkbox do?

Checking “Keep me signed in” will keep you signed in, even if you close and reopen your browser. When you explicitly sign out, your account (but not your password) will still be remembered on the computer making it easier to sign in next time. How do I remove a user that is listed on the Office 365 sign-in page?

Click on the user you'd like to remove and then click “Forget this account."

How should I handle Junk email?

  1. Office 365 will automatically flag some email as "Junk" and put it in the Junk folder. You should periodically review the items in the Junk folder to make sure no legitimate email was accidentally flagged. Items in the Junk folder will be automatically deleted after they are 30 days old.
  2. To mark email as "Junk" and help to train Office 365, do the following:
    1. Right-click the message
    2. Select "Mark as junk"
  3. To mark "Junk" email as legitimate, do the following:
    1. Right-click the message
    2. Select "Mark as not junk"

How do I remove email address entries from Office 365's auto-complete?

  1. Start a new message
  2. In the "To" field, begin typing the first few characters of the contact
  3. In the resulting list, use the arrows to highlight the entry you'd like to remove
  4. Hit the Delete key to remove the highlighted contact

How do I print an attachment without downloading it first?

  1. Click on the attachment
  2. The attachment will open in a separate pane
  3. Select Print from the menu

How do I enable blind carbon copy (Bcc)?

  1. In your Office 365 account click the "gear" icon in the upper right corner of the screen
  2. Click "Options"
  3. Under the Layout menu, click "Message format"
  4. Check "Always show Bcc"
  5. Click "save"
  6. Click "Options" in the upper left to return to Outlook

How long do messages stay in the Junk Email or Deleted Items folders?

Items put into these folders will be automatically deleted after 30 days.

Can I use Thunderbird to access my Office 365 email?

SCLS does not support the use of Thunderbird to access Office 365 email.

How do I check my spelling in Office 365?

Office 365's Outlook Web App relies on your browser to check spelling. Spell checking is available in Internet Explorer 10 and later versions, and current versions of Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. If I click on a link to email someone, will it automatically open Office 365?

Because it is a browser-based email program, there is not a way to set Office 365 as your default email program. Links to automatically email someone ("mailto:" links), will not open Office 365.

Instead, simply copy the email address and paste it into your Office 365 message's "To:" field.

What do I do about the LINKcat notices email account after Go Live?

  1. Check the old bounced notices account on Go Live and the day after Go Live to catch any notices previously sent that may have bounced.
  2. SCLS will retire the old notices account a few days after your library's Go Live date.
  3. Beginning on Go Live, notices will be sent with the new address and bounces should go to that.

 

What settings should I use if I want to configure selfchecks or other devices to send email?

While using the OWA app on my iPod/iPad/iPhone, I'm getting an "autodiscover attempt failed" message. What else can I try?

I'm getting a browser message about Office 365. What should I do?

  • "This website (outlook.office365.com) is asking to store data on your computer for offline use" : Allow
  • "Do you want Outlook.com to use additional storage on your computer?" : Yes
  • "Do you want to allow outlook.com to exceed the storage limit on your computer?": Yes

 

In Internet Explorer, I receive the message "Do you want to allow this webpage to access your Clipboard?" when I try to copy and paste into Office 365. How can I turn that off?

Follow these instructions to enable programmatic clipboard access in Internet Explorer. These instructions should only be used to change the setting for Trusted Sites.

 

Can I add an image to my signature?

No. Signatures cannot include image files (such a .gif or .jpg) in Outlook Web App.

 

What is Microsoft's privacy policy?

 

Is there an easy way to share my contacts with another user?

No. Contacts folder sharing is not possible in Outlook Web App.
