Guidelines for the LSTA 2004 Patron Training Projects

$9,000 of the 2004 LSTA Technology Grant for SCLS has been set aside for patron training projects. The guidelines for distribution of these funds is as follows:

• SCLS libraries may apply for up to $500 for a patron training project. The training must be related in some way to technology. Some possible training topics include:
  • Internet training (basics, search engines, etc.)
  • Training on electronic resources (ReferenceUSA, HeritageQuest, AncestryPlus, etc.)
  • Software training (Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Computer basics
    
    
• Money will be granted on a "first come, first served" basis.
  
  
• Libraries receiving money will be expected to supply SCLS with a brochure or flyer from the program and, if possible, the outline from the program.

To apply for these funds:
Fill out the LSTA 2004 Training Application Form. You will need to provide the following information on the form:

• A short description of the program
• The dates of the program
• The amount requested
• The name of the organization or person to which payment will be made.

Who can do the training?
You can hiring someone on your staff to do this training "above and beyond" their regular hours, or you can hire another agency to provide the training. Please see the list of possible trainers for some ideas. These are trainers from the SCLS area, including individuals from SCLS public libraries. You do not have to use a trainer from this list. It is provided to give some suggestions.
