Circulation Services Consultant

General Position Description:

The South Central Library System (SCLS) seeks an experienced Circulation Services Consultant. The primary responsibility is the management of the Circulation and Discovery Layer modules and related software applications for the integrated online system (LINKcat).  The Circulation Services Consultant is also responsible for coordinating circulation-related database maintenance.

Schedule

Regular work hours (minimum of 40 hours) are flexible within 6:00 am (CT) and 6:00 pm (CT) Monday through Friday, with schedule approved by supervisor. Work may be primarily remote with a minimum of two in-person days per month (currently the second and fourth Mondays) at SCLS Headquarters in Madison. A workspace is provided at SCLS Headquarters.  Occasional meetings, trainings, and work-related functions that require in-person attendance (either at SCLS Headquarters, a library site, or other facilities throughout Wisconsin) will be required. SCLS has a service area of seven counties and staff will need to travel to libraries in this area as needed. Occasional travel in Wisconsin and the U.S. may be required for professional development purposes.

Essential Functions

The Circulation Services Coordinator will:

  • Serve as project lead for projects involving circulation, discovery layer, and related software application support for the integrated online system.
  • Coordinate all circulation, discovery layer, and related software application support for the SCLS integrated online system, including:
    • Problem resolution with vendor and ILS Library staff
    • Consulting on efficient use of the system
    • Providing new and ongoing training on use of the system
    • Providing documentation to staff and patrons
  • Manage and develop the circulation, discovery layer, and related application software configurations to meet the information and technological needs of ILS Library staff, including:
    • Maintain and evaluate local parameters for the system’s application software
    • Plan and coordinate testing and integration of software enhancements
    • Monitor and coordinate software enhancement processes with vendors
  • Chair and/or facilitate the appropriate SCLS committees, sub-committees, and work groups.

Required Qualifications: 

Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school. Minimum of three years appropriate professional experience in library circulation services in at least seven of the following areas: use of automated circulation system in circulation department; library inventory software; self-checks/RFID, and/or sorters; e-commerce; debt collection software; discovery layer administration, administration of a major integrated library software system; database maintenance; training responsibility; experience working in a public library ILS consortium; SIP, SIP2, and/or NCIP; SQL; image editing; familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Ability to communicate complex technological concepts and to establish good interpersonal working relationships with a variety of people representing a wide range of experience and training. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and oral and written communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience working in a public library. Working knowledge of Spanish language.

Other Requirements: 

A flexible schedule and access to a personal vehicle are required. Must be able to travel to system libraries for meetings and to conduct training workshops. Must be able to use a computer to access/input information. Must be able to provide proof of auto insurance, and a copy of a valid driver’s license annually. Legal residency in Wisconsin is required.

Starting Salary: 

$69,233
