New Help Desk Technician
Nick Oldenburg has joined us as the new full-time SCLS Help Desk Technician as of January 28. We had a starting pool of over 200 applicants and were pleased to find Nick among them. He won us over with his great Help Desk phone manner, and we think you will like him too.
Technology Collaboration: Backup
The group has an engineered proposal from Dell. The proposal meets our needs and is expensive. The group is working on securing funding and investigating additional proposals. The LSTA grant is one area where funds are available, and we have been working hard to get commitments from systems who want to participate.
Technology Collaboration: Dell Group Purchasing
14 of the 16 library systems have signed up for the Dell group purchasing project. All required information has been submitted to Dell and in the next month we will all be purchasing from the same platform. We will receive a discount based on purchasing volume.
End-of-year updates to database subscriptions through WiLS are complete. Library staff should check their in-library and remote access to subscriptions to make sure that everything is working as expected. This year saw significant changes with Flipster, AtoZdatabases & ReferenceUSA, and Transparent Language subscriptions.
Database usage statistics
SCLS has new data dashboards for database usage statistics by library. Details can be found in this SCLS Technology News blog post: https://scls.typepad.com/scls_technology/2019/01/changes-to-the-online-resources-usage-statistics.html
Upcoming changes to the Online Resources pages
SCLS staff have drafted an updated version of our existing “System-wide” Online Resources page (https://www.scls.info/resources/name) to focus on more heavily-used and new resources. The new page (https://www.scls.info/online-resources-draft) will go live the week of February 4th.
