Marketing & Public Relations Advisory Committee
Structure & Charge --
February 2006
Mission Statement: The SCLS Marketing & Public Relations Advisory Committee markets public libraries—their role, value and importance.
The Marketing & Public Relations Advisory Committee is a subcommittee of PLAC, with membership from large and small member libraries. The committee meets at least quarterly.
Structure: The Marketing & Public Relations Advisory Committee includes seven members representing a cross-section of SCLS members (size and geographic location), while Madison Public Library has a permanent representative. Every effort is made to ensure that three large libraries (2 south, 1 central) and three small libraries (2 south, 1 central) are represented. The large libraries have one 2-year term and two 1-year terms, while the small libraries have two 2-year terms and one 1-year term. The committee, which is staffed by SCLS, elects its own chair from among its members and is responsible for taking its own minutes. One member of the Marketing & Public Relations Advisory Committee serves as a liaison to PLAC, to report on PR matters and forward proposals as required.
Charge: The Marketing & Public Relations Advisory Committee has the following charges:
- To market system and member library products and services.
- To advise and support system and member library marketing and publicity efforts.
- To teach and empower member library staffs and boards to communicate effectively and work positively with decision makers.
- To encourage public support of member libraries and SCLS.
- To explore any other marketing- and public relations-related matters as the committee deems necessary.
